Description
This is a gorgeous and practical addition to your home — a hand-stitched placemat.
The design is Hana-zashi (flower stitch), a traditional Japanese sashiko pattern featuring continuous curving lines that intersect to form repeating six-petalled flowers. For this piece, I haven’t stitched every flower, instead leaving some white space to create interest and allow the pattern to breathe.
The top layer is sarashi muslin, stitched in beautiful bright colours, it will surely brighten your table. A few flowers are also stitched with my own hand-dyed threads making this unique!
The placemat is finished with lightweight interfacing and backed with a cherry pattern seersucker. Everything is 100% cotton, it can be machine washed and, like all hana fukin, will become softer and softer with use and washing. You can use it either way up.
Size: approximately 31 cm x 45 cm (tray sized!)
