Threads & Whiskers: The Music Cat
Some cats purr. The Music Cat prefers to make a little more noise.
Inspired by the Japanese tradition of boro and my love of hand stitching, I created this original textile artwork from thoughtfully chosen pieces of Japanese cotton. Rich reds, black and cream are brought together with beautiful Azumino fabric, prized for its soft texture and depth, then layered with hand-worked sashiko stitching and embroidery.
The Music Cat is happily banging a drum, while a trail of tiny pawprints cleverly forms a treble clef—a playful detail that often makes people smile when they discover it. A timber embellishment and a mother-of-pearl button add further texture and character, inviting a closer look.
