Threads & Whiskers: The Flower Cat
The Flower Cat is quietly at home among swaying grasses and blooming flowers, celebrating nature, memory and the stories that cloth can carry.
Inspired by the Japanese Nowaki pattern—representing wind blowing through pampas grass—I created the original artwork from thoughtfully chosen Japanese cottons, combining hand-worked sashiko stitching with delicate embroidery. The gently stitched grasses echo the movement of the traditional design, creating a peaceful setting for this curious feline.
At the centre of the piece is a flower cut from one of my grandmother’s vintage tea towels. Although the cloth itself had become too worn to use, this beautiful motif was carefully preserved and given a new life within the artwork. Including it felt like honouring both family memories and the tradition of treasuring textiles for generations.
Every stitch was sewn by hand before the artwork was carefully reproduced as this premium-quality phone case, allowing you to carry a little piece of original textile art wherever you go.
Every design in the Thread & Whiskers collection begins as an original hand-stitched textile artwork before being carefully reproduced for everyday enjoyment.
